Apply for a Business Grant

Running a business isn’t always easy. There are lots of things that go into running a successful business. It takes time, effort, hard work, and a little luck. Maybe most of all, it takes money. So often small business fail simply because they didn’t have the funds to back up a great idea. If only there was a way to get extra money to help! Luckily, that’s exactly what grants are! Business grants are money that must be spent on specific things, but does NOT have to be paid back!

So, how do you get this “free money?” There are thousands of grants being offered as we speak. It can be a little overwhelming to figure out what the best way to find a grant may be. We suggest grants.gov. Grants.gov is an entire database of grants available to businesses around the world. But how do you use it? Keep reading for some tips and tricks on how to use Grants.gov to apply for a business grant.

Step 1 – Learn

Go over to grants.gov and read the overview on grants. It will give you a great baseline on what grants are, how to get them, and what to do once you have them. It is a great place to start when you are first trying to apply for a business grant!

Step 2 – Check

Make sure you are eligible for a grant before you apply. There are filters you can use to make sure that you are only looking at grants you are a good applicant for. When you pick one, read the fine details to make sure you are using your time valuably by applying!

Step 3 – Register

You may have done this already, but if you haven’t the site will give you step by step instructions to register for the software. This will also give you a chance to get emails when new grants show up that may be a good fit for you!

Step 4 – Apply

The best part! Make sure everything you put in is accurate. If there is an optional part such as a video, essay, or something along those lines, DO IT. It will never hurt and almost always help!

Step 5 – Track

Make sure you jot down your application info and check back often to see if you won! It can be confusing to do a lot of applications, so keeping track will help you narrow down your potential earnings!
